We Are Massachusetts Peace Action

We are each brought to this world not to conquer it, but to experience its infinite majesty while we can. More so than that, we are tasked with making a society in which our children might be spared the troubles of our own time and walk the earth as kin. This ought to be the aspiration of all people. However, the United States, in its self-anointed role as determiner of the fate of the world, has long instigated the exact opposite, intervening in and invading other nations to impose its own will and leaving only death and devastation in its wake. This is the cause for which Massachusetts Peace Action exists.
Massachusetts Peace Action is a grass-roots peace organization that fights for nuclear disarmament, ending US interventionism, the preservation of the environment, among many other things at both the state and federal levels. We were founded in 1981 as a part of the nuclear freeze movement, which fought to pressure the United States and USSR to address the existential threat that nuclear weapons posed to the world and end their proliferation.
Since then, the organization has grown to be the largest grass-roots peace organization in the state and now addresses, in addition to the continued threat of nuclear weapons, many other areas of public policy. We meet with our Massachusetts Senators and Congressional Representatives to lobby for peaceful policies, and we campaign for pro-peace candidates at all levels of government. From the State House to the streets, Massachusetts Peace Action organizes rallies, marches, vigils, and sit-ins, to demand action on peace and justice. We hold working groups focused on the Middle East, Latin America, Palestine/Israel, Health Care, Climate Change, Racial Justice, and more. We also keep our members up to date on news in the realm of peace both foreign and domestic and hold webinars and events with notable speakers. Peace is not a spectator sport. The only way that we will achieve peace is by organizing large masses of people to demand it.
